CRITICAL THINKING: GENDER OR FIELD OF STUDY?

Abstract

 In order to compare inclinations of CRITICAL THINKING and its components based on GENDER and FIELD OF STUDY, 714 male and female students in the fields of Math-Physics and Humanities of 6 and 11 Educational Districts of Tehran were selected based on cluster sampling and were given California CRITICAL THINKING Questionnaire (Fashion, Fashion and Gankerloo 2001). Findings of the research indicated that male and female students had significant differences only in two components of CRITICAL THINKING: confidence in regard to the capability of CRITICAL THINKING and maturity in judgement.The components of confidence in one’s capabilities and searching for truths showed significant differences as far as fields of studies were concerned. The conclusion is that GENDER and the FIELD OF STUDY influence CRITICAL THINKING inclination.
