Abstract

The current study examined the effectiveness of cognitive and metacognitive strategies on Female high school student's goal orientation, test anxiety and ACADEMIC ACHIEVEMENT in Karaj. Method: 65 students were assigned into experimental and control groups. Both groups answered "cognitive and metacognitive strategies questionnaire", "Test anxiety questionnaire" and "goal orientation scale". Experimental group attended a 10 sessions, (2 hours each session) workshop. At the end of intervention, the two groups answered the same questionnaires. Result: using multivariate analysis of covariance and t-test, the two groups were compared on post- tests, while pretests were assigned as covariate. The results showed that the program was successful, resulting in the significant increase of learning goal orientation, and ACADEMIC ACHIEVEMENT, however, no significant effect was found on the performance goal and avoidance goal orientation variable. The treatment also decreased the test anxiety of the students. Conclusion: the present study indicated that cognitive and metacognitive strategies program is a useful program for raising the learning goal orientation, ACADEMIC ACHIEVEMENT and reducing test anxiety of the students.
