Abstract:

Background and Aim: Indexing a country's scientific journals in international citation databases can lead to the promotion of its academic status and its participation in global knowledge production. This study aimed to assess the conformity of Iranian English-language medical journals’ citations with the objective criteria of journals in the selected databases.Materials and Methods: This was a descriptive, evaluative research. The study population included 52 Iranian English-language medical journals that are not indexed in Web of Science, PubMed and Scopus databases and 465 articles in these issues, and about 11235 citations to the articles. The data have been collected by a checklist. For data analysis, Excel software was used. Results: Some 88.5 percent of journals had a style for writing references; a style that has been observed by most of them. The rate of self-citation was low. Only 2.9 percent of citations were done in the year this study was performed. Journals with 87.2 percent had received the highest number of citations. The old citation time and the imbalance in the types of cited resources were the most important reasons of the weakness of the studied journals and of their not being indexed in the mentioned databases. Conclusion: Providing valid styles for writing references and controlling the citations accurately should be put on the agenda of journals. The time of references must be newer, and there should be a relative balance in the types of referenced sources.

Abstract:

Background and Aim: Considering the scope of tasks and the role of teaching hospitals in the promotion of population health, it is important to consider their responsiveness as one of the three goals of health system. The aim of this study was to evaluate the level and relative importance of responsiveness domains in teaching hospitals from the viewpoint of households living in selected areas of Mashhad.Materials and Methods: In this cross-sectional study, a valid questionnaire designed by World Health Organization (WHO) was used. From among the households of two selected areas of Mashhad, 561 families that had the background of referring to teaching hospitals were selected via multi-stage sampling. Based on WHO pattern, descriptive and inferential statistics were used for data analysis. Results: About 50 percent of the respondents expressed the level of responsiveness as good and very good. Information confidentiality domain and the quality of amenities got the highest and lowest ranks from the respondents’ viewpoint, respectively. The highest and lowest importance belonged to the domains of quality care facilities and family and social support, respectively. Conclusion: Considering the relatively low responsiveness of different domains and also the existing gap between families’ priorities and performance of teaching hospitals, it seems necessary that policymakers pay more attention to patients’priorities such as the quality of care facilities and the creation of appropriate educational content related to medical students. Also, periodic evaluation of responsiveness can be useful in promoting the responsiveness of teaching hospitals.

Abstract:

Background and Aim: Occupational burnout is one of the aspects of psychological hazards. One of the most important factors that can predict it is emotional intelligence. The aim of this study was to investigate the effect of emotional intelligence on occupational burnout among the managers of Tehran University of Medical Sciences (TUMS) selected hospitals.Materials and Methods: This was a cross-sectional descriptive and analytical study in 2014. The subjects were senior, middle and executive managers of TUMS affiliated hospitals. Census was used in this study. Ninety questionnaires were distributed in accordance with the population size. For data collection, Maslach Burnout Inventory (with reliability and retest coefficients of 0.71-0.9 and 0.6-0.8, respectively), Intelligence Questionnaire by Bradberry and Greaves (with reliability and validity of 0.83 and 0.67, respectively) and demographic profile questionnaire were used. All statistical analyses were performed by SPSS software. Results: There was no significant relationship between job burnout and demographic variables (e.g. work experience, management experience, education, gender, marital status and occupational position). Emotional intelligence of managers and its subscales were high. The highest and lowest scores of emotional intelligence component belonged to relationship management and social awareness, respectively. There was no meaningful relationship between job burnout and emotional intelligence at the error level of 5% and P-value=0.63.Conclusion: Since managers’ social awareness was at a low level, by improving it, we can help their emotional intelligence increase; also by identifying the factors affecting hospital managers’ occupational burnout, we can help it decrease.

Background and Aim: Technical videos and images are of great importance in learning different topics of medical sciences. This study is conducted to determine the effect of videos and images in learning from students’ point of view and also their problems in accessing them.Materials and Methods: This is a survey study. Data were collected by a selfmade questionnaire and the population included postgraduate students of Qazvin University of Medical Sciences in the first semester of 9495-.Results: More than half of the students stated that images and videos have an average or more-than-average effect on their learning achievements. There is no significant relationship between students’ fields of study and their feeling the need for specialized images and videos. To get advice, they refer more to their professors or classmates than to librarians. A large number of responding students had not heard even the names of specialized image-and-video databases or they had never used them before. Low-speed internet and filtering of sites are the most important factors in students’ failure to access their required images and videos while students themselves have ranked ‘unfamiliarity with specialized databases’ as the fourth important factor. Conclusion: The students know the importance of images and videos in learning achievements, but since they don’t know the professional databases and don’t have an appropriate interaction with librarians, they resort to general search-engines and, as a result, they face with blocked sites and are deprived from what they really want.
