Abstract: 

The growing IT and electronic devices as well as limitations in traditional education have led to the use of virtual education as an alternative. In order to use e-learning methods in medical science, localization and research studies to evaluate its effectiveness is essential. The purpose of this study was to review the studies related to virtual education in Medical Sciences in Iran. key words such as virtual education, e-learning, computerized education issued by Google scholar databases were used to find articles in Persian and for Latin articles, PUBMED and Scopus databases were used. As the result, a limited number of 35 articles in the areas of educational software, multimedia tools, web-based training, studies using e-learning system, using email and mobile phones, electronic testing and continuing education via electronic methods were found and 27 of them were selected. The majority of the studies suggested that the effectiveness of virtual education is equal to or more than that of traditional education. Moreover, students and faculty members have a positive outlook on using virtual education in most of the mentioned studies and are highly satisfied by them. However, since the effect of virtual education on learning and the satisfaction of the learners can differ depending on the method employed, the different majors of the medical sciences require more extensive studies in Iran.

Abstract: 

The recent evidence based experimental research has indicated that Education Management Strategy of sciences (EMS) can apply valuable attributes of different theories to learning improvement. Hence, the attributes of self-directed learning theory were implemented in the course of Morning Report Subject at Baqiyatallah University of Medical Sciences. In the type of semi-experimental research with pretest and post-test design, 30 selected medical students were randomly divided into two experimental and control group. The research data gathering tool was “Fischer’s Self-directed Learning Readiness” questionnaire. Afterwards, data was analyzed using both T-independent and dependent tests and Effect Size (ES) measurement. The research findings indicated the significant statistical difference between the pre and post-test results of the two groups; in addition, a significant difference between the mean of experimental class was observed to the extent that the mean of education management strategy through using the key factors of self-directed learning theory was higher than the highest grade of students in the control group. According to the results of present evidence-based research, it is suggested that education management strategy embedding key factors of self-directed learning in the Morning Report subject has advantage over traditional class to improve students’ learning.

Abstract: 

Violence and its associated trauma are an increasing worldwide critical health problem, and the victims of violence necessitate the medical and forensic services. Forensic nursing is one of the new disciplines in this field, hence the aim of this study was to review the forensic nursing, its application and introduction of forensic nursing as new branches of nursing discipline. This study was a narrative review research by searching the key words like forensic nursing and nursing in PubMed, Ovid, Scopus, EMBASE, Medline and Elsevier and Iranian INLM databases without time limitation. The result showed that forensic nursing provided direct services to individual, consultation services to nursing, medical and law-related agencies, as well as providing expert court testimony in areas dealing with trauma and/or questioned death investigative processes, addressing the children and elderly abuse, care of prisoner patients and assessing death scenes. This field also had some branches; providing an appropriate health services by forensic nurses can have a pivotal role in care of individuals who were the victims of violence; not only decreases the long term effect of abuses on physical and psychological aspect, but also prevent from being a victim of the violence. Therefore, the educational authorities should consider the necessity of designation the infrastructure required to provide forensic nursing and implementation of forensic nursing in health care systems.

Abstract: 

The present analytical-descriptive study aimed to investigate the status of the academic libraries of the Faculties in Ahvaz Jundishapur University of medical sciences including the different Faculties’ libraries such as school of Nursing of Abadan, Shushtar, Bostan, Behbahan, Ahvaz Nursing and Midwifery, Rehabilitation sciences, Pharmacy, and Dentistry in terms of expert and assistant, space for books and publications, study space, working space for employees, number of publications books. Hence, a standard questionnaire was used to collect information provided for comparison with the standard of Iranian academic libraries. According to research results in terms of human resources including expert and expert assistant, the library of Medicine Faculty showed a staff shortage of 4 human resources more than other libraries. In comparison, the library of Rehabilitation sciences faculty would rather well than other libraries and was desirable. In addition, in terms of number of book volume, there was a deep deficiency in the Library of Medicine faculty with shortage of 216, 502 volumes; and in terms of the staff working space, there was also the shortage of 235 meters more by comparison with other libraries. However, the deficiency of the number of journal title was observed at Paramedical School’ library with a shortage of 150 titles more than other libraries; Although it demonstrated lack of storage space for library books and journals in comparison with other libraries with shortage about 38 meters, Medical School’ library with a relative lack of 836 meters was more than other libraries in deficit in terms of reading room space., . All the data led to conclude that most surveyed libraries indicated weaknesses and deficiencies; therefore, the harsh conditions should be taken into serious consideration and the remedial decisions, too..

Abstract: 

Evaluation of educational program by students not only can be considered as an appropriate valuation method also can improve the effective training. Hence, this study was carried out to appraise the opinions of medical students towards various aspects of immunology course. The present cross-sectional study evaluated the opinions of 225 medical students at Ahvaz Jundishapur University of Medical Sciences; the data collection tool was a questionnaire consisted of 30 questions about various aspects of the immunology course; and, database was extracted from the questionnaires and then analyzed by SPSS-18vr. with the addition of statistical methods. Moreover, the statistical population consisted of 100 students (44.4%) in Basic Sciences section; other 49 students (21.8%) in Physiopath section; and 76 students the Interns (33.8%) of overall 25.8% male and 63.3% female. The result of the study revealed purposes, content, and material resources of immunology course were significantly considered more moderate (P£0.05). It seems that the participants anticipated providing better conditions of teaching; therefore, it likely requires to revise, and to reform the size, content and manner of its presentation and the time duration of class in immunology course.

Abstract: 

Progress in medicine is inevitably dependent on Anatomy as it plays a pivotal role in this regard. Therefore, the aim of this study was to examine the effects of factors promoting the instruction of anatomy course in Ahvaz Jundishapur University of medical sciences. A researcher-made questionnaire contains 17 items including the biological sciences, items impacting on learning anatomy lessons and teaching method. Afterwards, among doctrine medicine students at 1390-91 year of study only 202 students as statistical population answered the distributed questionnaire and then formally took part in this study. The validity of the questionnaire was confirmed by reviewing the papers and considering the comments of anatomy professors; and its reliability was also verified by calculating Cronbach's alpha (0.807). Then, data were analyzed by SPSS (Version 20) and Mann-Whithney test. Lecturer personality, quality and quantity of cadavers and maquettes, summarizing the lesson at the end, expressing clinical notes, drawing the schematic figures had significant effects on learning anatomy course among these students (P<0.05). In addition, girls believed that the variables like presentation by PowerPoint slides, drawing the schematic figures, summarizing the lesson on the table, presenting a summery at the end of class affected considerably the learning of anatomy course (P<0.05); they firmly believed in these enhancing factors; and there was a significant difference while compared with the boys’ views. As a result, by considering the effects of these factors in teaching, anatomy lecturers could enhance the level of anatomy learning in the students.

Abstract: 

Lesson plan is one of the key factors in teaching – learning process. In fact, lesson plan is the main fundamental of education and the central to the teaching. Hence, a content analysis of the lesson plans was conducted by faculty members of North Khorasan University of Medical Sciences (NKUMS). In this cross - sectional study, 72 lesson plans developed by NKUMS faculty members at the second semester in 2011-2012 were analyzed, and the data were collected by the researcher-made checklist included 12 effective items of lesson plan; afterwards, data were analyzed through descriptive test using SPSS software, version 16. Among three schools studied, health school’ lesson plans (81%) were more favorable situation. In total, general information defined (98%) and goals defined gained the highest scores among the components evaluated, whereas Scheduling classes based on curriculum (35%) and writing in format of lesson plan approved (44%) gained the lowest score. Based on the research findings, the quality of content and writing lesson plans presented by NKUMS faculty members was acceptable. As we observed weaknesses and defects, therefore, it can be recommended that the Education Development Center (EDC) prioritize the developing and implementation of the purposeful planning about evaluating of lesson plans annually.

Abstract: 

In order to improve the academic achievement of children and parenting style according to family evaporated model (FEM) based on Iranian culture, a quasi-experimental study of nonequivalent groups was performed, the sample consisted of thirty couples with an average age of 40 years, how has school age children participated voluntarily and were placed in either an experimental or a control group. The experimental group received education program in 10 sessions (each two hours). All participants answered the Parenting Style Inventory (PSI) in pre and post test. Finally, questionnaires data, Demographic information and the averages of one semester past have been used for analysis and Hypothesises were tested by ANCOVA analysis. Also, the results indicated that the experimental group had significantly higher scores in the posttest than in the pretest phase. As a result, both experimental and qualitative findings suggest that parenting education based on Iranian culture can be used to improve children's academic achievement and parenting styles.

Abstract: 

One of the effective factors in process of learning is education environment that is determinant in student’s motivation toward learning and leads to boosting deep learning treatments. This cross-sectional descriptive study involved collecting data on students’ perceptions of 136 randomized nursing students at Azad University of Mashhad that were measured by standard DREEM questionnaire. Afterwards, data were analyzed by using SPSS (V.20) software through descriptive statistics and T-test exam. The mean of total score obtained from nursing education environment was 107±23 from 200 (MAX) that signified positive aspects to be more than negative. However, the least mean score related to perception of learning was 23.85±7.8 from 48, and to perception of teachers’ subscales was calculated as 22.6±6.4 from 44. In addition, there was a significant difference between the mean of total score among male and female students and also preclinical and clinical education phases. The Results of this study indicated that nursing student’s perceptions of education environment were moderate, moreover, there are lots of opportunities for improvements in all domains of educational environment. Furthermore, the modern educational strategies and student centered approach should be applied in revising the educational programs.

Abstract: 

-related problems remain largely an unidentified public health issue, especially among university students. The aim of this study was to appraise sleep quality among students at Tabriz University of Medical Sciences. Also it was to compare the sleep quality index and subscales sleep quality with the different level of academic performance of students. This descriptive study was done through causal –cluster comparative method. The research population was all students from different fields of medical sciences from 2007 to 2010; they were studying at Bachelor degree and professional doctorate level and at second semester in 2010-2011. Accordingly, 168 students were selected through Randomized Stratified Sampling method. Data collection tools included (PSQI) and demographic questionnaires; afterwards, data were analyzed by Kruskal-Wallis and ANOVAs methods. Prevalence of poor sleep quality was calculated %57.1 in comparison to normal sleep quality (%42.9). Students' average scores were 6.15 (PSQI), and it was more than normal range. In addition, there was a significant difference between sleep quality index and subscale “sleep efficacy"; while there was not observed any difference between “sleep latency and sleep duration”. The results showed the majority of students at Tabriz University of medical sciences were at poor sleep quality and there also observed a considerable relationship between sleep quality index and students’ academic performance. The present investigation provided an applicable suggestion that the importance of sleep quality and quantity effectiveness on education should be considered and mainly be taught as well as life skills (as a component of life styles) to students.

Abstract: 

The aim of this research was to determine the relationship between academic buoyancy, goals achievement and motivational orientations with Creative self-efficacy. Subjects were selected through simple random sampling; the research statistical population included 1699 students of Ahvaz university of Medical sciences, but only those 200 individuals were selected by using Cochran table. And also data were collected by using questionnaire of academic buoyancy; goals achievement scales (AGOS), motivational orientations scales and Creative self-efficacy (CSEQ) using regression analysis. In this study, the reliability of that questionnaire was calculated by Cronbach's alpha as 0.66, 0.79, 0.72 and 0.67%, respectively; moreover, SPSS version 16 was used to investigate the relationship between variables. After data analysis, the results showed that there was a significant relationship between mastery approach goals, performance approach goals, intrinsic motivation, extrinsic motivation and academic buoyancy with Creative self-efficacy. Meanwhile the result also indicated that motivational orientations can be identified as a factor to be considered at academic buoyancy. Moreover, the results of regression analysis with simultaneously entry method showed predicting variables have the ability to explain 41from Creative self-efficacy.
