Abstract

 The purpose of this study was to investigate the effectiveness of training CRITICAL THINKING and problem-solving skills on the self-regulation strategies and ACADEMIC ACHIEVEMENT of high school students in Tabriz region 1. Research design was Quasi- experimental and pretest - posttest with control group. The statistical population included female high school students in Tabriz region 1, among which 90 students were selected by multi-stage cluster sampling method and randomly divided into two experimental and one control groups. Before the training program, three groups were tested by self-regulation strategies scale and ACADEMIC ACHIEVEMENT. Then the first experimental group received CRITICAL THINKING training and PROBLEM - SOLVING SKILLS were taught to the second experimental group and the control group received no treatment. After implementing educational programs, all three groups were tested by self- regulation strategies scale and ACADEMIC ACHIEVEMENT. Data were analyzed by using covariance and Post hoc test. The results showed that CRITICAL THINKING and problem- solving can increase self-regulation strategies and ACADEMIC ACHIEVEMENT of Female high school students. The results of post hoc tests showed that problem- solving skills had more impact than CRITICAL THINKING on the ACADEMIC ACHIEVEMENT and self- regulation strategies of the participants.
