STUDY THE EFFECT OF TEACHING PROBLEM-SOLVING SKILL ON FIRST YEAR HIGH SCHOOL MALE STUDENTS’ ACHEIVEMENT IN SONQOR CITY IN ACADEMIC YEAR (2010-2011)

Abstract

 The purpose of the study was to examine the effectiveness of problem solving skill on academic achievement of STUDENTS. The study population consisted of all male STUDENTS in first year of high school. Sample size was 40 subjects, and they were selected by a multistage random sampling method. Academic achievement test and problem solving skill test were used in order to measure variables of the research during the eight sessions (2 hours) for a month. The design of the study was quasiexperimental i.e., the pretest–posttest type with control group and follow up stage. T-test and analysis of covariance were used in order to analyze the obtained data. The results showed that the academic progress of STUDENTS who had received problemsolving skills was more than academic progress of STUDENTS who had not received PROBLEM-SOLVING SKILLS. The academic progress of STUDENTS over time had a good stability.
