Abstract:

Background & Aims: Mistakes in psychiatric admissions are due to the greater turnover of patients and nursing staff and frequent changes in prescriptions, and drug use often occurs in noisy states and during meals. The SBAR (Status, Background, Assessment, and Recommendation) model is a highly effective tool that provides a predictable, common structure for communication. The purpose of this study was to determine the effect of SBAR communication model training on the frequency of medication errors among nurses working in the Razi Psychiatry Center in Urmia in 2018. Materials & Methods: This is a quasi-experimental study with pre-test and post-test. The study sample consisted of 64 nursing staff working in the Razi Psychiatry Center in Urmia in 2018 who were selected by random sampling. In this study, drug prescription error questionnaire was used. On the SBAR communication model training, 10 lectures on how to implement the SBAR communication model and distribute the educational pamphlet on the SBAR communication model and install the electronic program as a pdf file on the computer monitor of the sections were randomly assigned in different shifts. The impact of training on the SBAR model was evaluated. SPSS software version 22 was used for data analysis. Results: The results showed that there was a significant difference at the p <0. 0001 level in both injectable drugs (Z =-6. 59) and non-injectable drugs (Z=-4. 26) based on the Wilcoxon test. Workplace component score before model training was 29. 94 and after training was 30. 98 with little change (p=0. 239). Also, the component score of the causes of medication errors decreased from 64. 06 in the pre-test to 60. 78 in the post-test, but this decrease was not significant(p=0. 607). Conclusion: In general, the results of this study showed that teaching the SBAR communication model to nurses working in Urmia Razi Psychiatric Training Center can reduce medication errors.

Abstract:

Background & Aims: Diabetes mellitus is a common chronic disease. Proper management of this disease requires proper self-care behaviors. One of the most effective psychological factors that predict the self-care behavior is personality type. The aim of this study was to determine and compare levels of self-care in diabetic patients with personality types A and B. Materials & Methods: This study is a descriptive-analytical study. In this study, 342 diabetic patients were recruited through convenience sampling. Data were collected using self-care questionnaire in diabetic patients and personality type A and B questionnaire. After data collection, the data were entered into SPSS 22 software. Data were analyzed using descriptive and inferential statistics. Results: According to the results, the standard deviation and the mean score of total self-care as well as self-care in blood glucose control and foot care dimension in personality type A were higher than individuals in personality type B (p > 0. 05). On the other hand, standard deviation and mean score of self-care in terms of nutrition, drug behavior, and physical activity were higher in type B personality group than group A (p > 0. 05). Conclusion: According to the findings of this study, the overall score of self-care in patients with personality type A is higher than personality type B. However, the mean score of self-care in most subscales in diabetic patients with personality type B is higher than patients with personality type A. Therefore, more studies are needed in this regard.

Abstract:

Background & Aims: Hospitalization of preterm infants in intensive care unit leads to separation of parents from their infants and chaos in family life. This study aimed to determine the relationship between maternal attachment and self-esteem in mothers of hospitalized premature infants in neonatal Intensive Care Unit. Materials & Methods: This descriptive correlational research was conducted on 200 mothers of preterm infants hospitalized in neonatal Intensive Care Units in selected hospitals of Birjand University of medical sciences. The sampling was done with simple random method. Data collection was performed using the Rosenberg’ s self-esteem scale and Lifer maternal-fetal relationship scale. Then, the data analysis was done by SPSS version 19. Results: Results showed that 51/5 percent of mothers were within the age range of 20-30 years. Mean and standard deviation of self-esteem and maternal attachment were 22. 7 ± 4. 6 and 32. 2 ± 4. 2, respectively. The spearman test showed that there was a significant correlation between maternal-fetal attachment and self-esteem (p <0. 05, r= 0. 332). Also, correlation between Self-esteem and age of mothers was negative. Divorced, widowed and addicted mothers have a lower self-esteem scale. There was a positive and significant correlation between self-esteem, level of education, income and birth weight. Also, mothers who were breastfeeding had higher self-esteem. Conclusion: According to the results of the study, there was a positive and significant relationship between self-esteem and maternal attachment in mothers of preterm infants. Therefore, providing maternal educational support packages while caring for preterm infants can be effective in promoting mothers' self-esteem and consequently improving mother-infant attachment. Younger mothers and the mother's higher level of education, higher income, optimal weight of the child, and breastfeeding increased self-esteem and attachment. Implementing educational programs on the necessity of skin-to-skin contact with the infants and how to communicate with the child, how to deal with and manage the infant's problems, involvement of family members in infant’ s care and coping strategies, dealing with problems and acceptance of life responsibilities can be used for the mental health of mothers with preterm infants. It is also recommended to perform nursing care with emphasis on creating a close relationship between mother and child such as touch, massage and kangaroo care in neonatal Intensive Care Units.

Abstract:

Background & Aims: Asthma is the most important chronic disease in school-age children. The effects are significant in terms of increased economic costs, decreased quality of life, hospitalization, absenteeism, and death. The purpose of this study was to investigate the effect of family-centered education based on the Health Belief Model on absenteeism and hospitalization of 6 to 12-year-old children with asthma. Materials & Methods: In this clinical trial study, parents of 64 children with asthma were recruited from Arya Hospital Specialty Center for Asthma and Allergy in Ahvaz, Iran. Purposeful and accessible sampling was performed and the samples were randomly divided into two groups of case and control (32 each). Data were collected through a questionnaire containing demographic information and a researcher-made questionnaire of health beliefs and child asthma remediation indices that were collected twice (before educational intervention and 4 months later). Data were analyzed using SPSS 18 software. Results: A total of 64 samples were included in the present study. Each parent group included 32 children with asthma. According to the Health Belief Model, the mean score of sensitivity, severity, perceived benefits, and barriers and self-efficacy before intervention did not show any significant difference between the two groups (p> 0. 05). After intervention, the mean score of case group was significantly higher than the control group (p <0. 05). Also, there was no significant difference between the number of absences from school and hospital stay before intervention (p> 0. 05). However, these characteristics were significantly lower in the case group after intervention (p <0. 05). Conclusion: Family-based care based on the Health Belief Model leads to improvement of asthma indices in children and consequently prevents additional costs to the patient. Therefore, it is recommended that this model be used to train nursing students.

Abstract:

Background & Aims: The purpose of this study was to compare the religious beliefs and sexual satisfaction of women with and without meta-relationships. Materials & Methods: The research design was causal-comparative. The study population consisted of all women who referred to psychology and psychiatry clinics in Tehran in 1977, who had a history of extra-marital relationships, and women with no extra-marital relationships, including 60 women with purposeful and extra-marital relationships. Sixty women without meta-relationships were randomly selected and evaluated using the Hudson Sexual Satisfaction Questionnaire and the Temple Questionnaire. Data were analyzed using two-tailed independent t-test and multivariate analysis of variance. Results: The findings of the study showed that women with extra-marital relationships show lower sexual satisfaction and practice of religious beliefs than women without extra-marital relationships. Conclusion: Women who were more inclined and scored higher in the Religious Beliefs Questionnaire were not involved in extramarital affairs, and this could confirm the need to pay attention and cultivate religious beliefs among community members in order to survive and maintain the family.
