Abstract: 

Background and Objectives: One of the essential requirements for the dynamics of the educational system is evaluation. Internal evaluation is a process of depicting the status of the academic system by the members of the system itself. This study was conducted with the purpose of internal evaluation of the Department of Public Health of the School of Health of Qom University of Medical Sciences. Methods: This study was performed as a descriptive cross-sectional study in the Department of Public Health of Qom University of Medical Sciences. Sampling method was census and information were collected using questionnaire for internal evaluation of groups. Results: In this study, the questionnaires were completed by 80 students, 32 graduates, and 6 faculty members of the Department of Public Health. In terms of educational empowerment, 66. 6% of the faculty members reported that scientific mastery in theoretical courses was relatively favorable; 37. 7% of the students described the teacher's scientific mastery as desirable; and 58. 8% of them described the professors evaluation as relatively desirable; 54. 8% of the graduates evaluated the skills acquired during the academic period as undesirable. Conclusion: Considering the importance of educational evaluation for determining the quality, items, such as effectiveness and value of a program or process, continuous evaluation, and promotion of the quality of education seem to be necessary to correct their weaknesses in areas with undesirable and relatively desirable status.

Abstract: 

Background and Objectives: Despite the quantitative growth of higher education, it had no proportional growth in terms of effectiveness, efficiency, and quality. Therefore, academic centers should monitor their performance quality, and accordingly take action for the improvement of their status and standardization. The purpose of this study was to identify strengths and weaknesses of the Department of Occupational Health and Safety Engineering based on the data of internal evaluation in 2018. Methods: This study was carried out as a descriptive-analytical cross-sectional study. Required information was collected from the department head, faculty members, all students, graduates, and officials and administrative personnel of the faculty using observation, interview, and valid questionnaires and checklist. There were 14 factors, 96 criteria, and 266 markers in this study. Score of 1 to 1. 66 was considered as undesirable, 1. 67 to 2. 32 as relatively desirable, and 2. 33 to 3 as desirable. The data were analyzed by descriptive and one way ANOVA tests. Results: In this study, the overall status of the department was desirable with the score of 2. 39. Eight factors were desirable and the rest were relatively desirable. Among which, mission and educational goals factor had the highest score (2. 85) the library factor had the lowest score (1. 95). Conclusion: Based on the results of this study, the status of the department was evaluated as desirable. Thus, desirable total score does not mean that there is no need for sustainable development or improvement of the current conditions, and it seems that there is a need for improvement in factors, such as attempt to update the courses to meet the need of the labor market as well as standardization of educational spaces.

Abstract: 

Background and Objectives: Educational evaluation is an official activity to determine the quality of the effectiveness and/or the value of a program, product, project, process, goal, or curriculum, and is the best indicator that shows the amount of achievement of educational goals and analyzes the educational activities carried out in the academic system, and results in rational and conventional results. The purpose of this study was internal evaluation of the Department of Midwifery in the School of Nursing and Midwifery of Qom University of Medical Sciences. Methods: This descriptive cross-sectional study was conducted with the aim of internal evaluation of the Department of Midwifery in the School of Nursing and Midwifery of Qom University of Medical Sciences, 2017. The data collection tool was a questionnaire provided by Study Center of Qom University of Medical Sciences. Data analysis was performed using descriptive statistics. Results: In this study, the department of midwifery of Qom University of Medical Sciences, with a score of over 75 in 6 areas, was in a desirable status, with a score of over 50 in two areas was in a relatively desirable status, and with a score of less than 50 in one area was in an undesirable status. In the overall assessment, the Department of Midwifery obtained a score of 70. 20 and was ranked as relatively desirable. Conclusion: The findings of this study showed that despite some deficiencies, the Department of Midwifery is in a relatively desirable status. Therefore, developing precise, scientific, and applied strategies, seem to be necessary in order to eliminate existing deficiencies.

Abstract: 

Background and Objectives: Education is a complicated process, which any simplistic approach to it can lead to waste of forces and facilities and lack of access to educational goals. This issue is of great importance in nursing education. Thus, the present research was performed to investigate the problems of clinical education of nursing students in Islamic Azad University, Qom branch. Methods: This cross-sectional study was performed on 75 nursing students in the final semester. The sampling was done using census method. Data collection was performed using a researcher-made questionnaire that its validity and reliability had been confirmed. The students responded in terms of different challenges in 6 domains, including aims and educational program, clinical evaluation, educational environment, trainer, and communication with student. Results: In this study, most of the problems were related to not paying attention to the student’ point of view in apprenticeship programming, students unawareness of manner of clinical evaluation at the beginning of the period, unsuitable number of student, causing stress in the student by trainer, low number of patients, and lack of student’ s decision making power in the planning for patient care. The most important problem in all areas was the high number of students in the ward. Conclusion: Realization of the aims of nursing education goals requires optimal planning in each effective factors (aims, content, trainers, and evaluation) in clinical education. Therefore, improvement of existing problems and barriers is possible by cooperation between trainers, employees, and related authorities.

Abstract: 

Background and Objectives: Evaluation of learning and teaching activities is one of the activities that is given emphasis and attention in the educational institutions. One of the diagnostic tools in this context is assessment of educational environment and educational space or, in other words, educational atmosphere. The aim of this study was to investigate the students' viewpoint about the educational atmosphere of Qom University of Medical Sciences. Methods: This study was performed as a descriptive-analytical study 0n all the students studying in Qom University of Medical Sciences in 2018. Based on multi-stage sampling, 306 students were selected. Data collection tool was included a demographic characteristics questionnaire and DREEM standard questionnaire. Data were analyzed by independent t-test, one way ANOVA, Duncan's post-hoc test, and Pearson correlation coefficient at the significance level of p<0. 05. Results: The mean score of the educational atmosphere from the students' viewpoint was 114. 1± 23. 3; 0. 7% of the samples evaluated the educational atmosphere as undesirable, 24. 8% semi-desirable, 69. 3% desirable, and 5. 2% very desirable. Based on the independent t-test results, in terms of gender, there were significant differences between the students' point of view on learning, educational environment, and social status; Also, the total score of educational atmosphere showed a significant difference in terms of gender (p<0. 05). The results of ANOVA test showed that in terms of the collage, there was a significant difference between the students' viewpoint about learning (p=0. 007). There was a significant positive correlation between the students' GPA and the educational atmosphere (r=0. 307, p=0. 022). Conclusion: The results of this study indicated that educational atmosphere was desirable from the viewpoint of most of the students, and male students had more positive point of view on educational atmosphere of the university, compared to the female ones. In addition, students with higher GPA had more positive viewpoint about the educational atmosphere.

Abstract: 

Background and Objectives: Clinical education is an integral part of education in medical sciences, the aim of which is acquisition of professional skills for use in future clinical care. The aim of this study was to evaluate the quality of clinical education from the perspective of anesthesiology and operating room students and its related factors in Qom University of Medical Science. Methods: This descriptive-analytic (cross-sectional) study was performed on all students of Anesthesiology and Operating Room of the Qom University of Medical Sciences in 2017. A total of 104 students were selected using census method. Data collection tool was a demographic characteristic and clinical education status questionnaire. Data were analyzed by independent t-test and Pearson correlation test. Results: In this study, Anesthesia students with a score of 73. 73+71. 12 and operation room with a score of 75. 46± 10. 29 had a relatively good clinical education status. Among the demographic variables, only the relationship of feeling of job security with clinical education status was significant (p<0. 05). Conclusion: Considering the role of the quality of clinical education in the learning of theoretical content and its application in the student's professional future, it is necessary to correct the defects of clinical education and strengthen its various aspects.

Abstract: 

Background and Objectives: Internal evaluation is a dynamic and continuous process, which has a high effectiveness and improves the quantity and quality of the group's education system due to the participation of all members of the group. The purpose of this study was internal evaluation of the Department of Nursing of Qom University of Medical Sciences in 2018. Methods: This descriptive cross-sectional study was conducted in order to internal evaluation of the Department of Nursing of the school of Nursing and Midwifery of Qom University of Medical Sciences in 2018. Students, graduates, faculty members, and head of Department of Nursing, and dean and deputy of education and research of the faculty, were selected by census sampling method. A questionnaire approved by the Center for Studies of Qom University of Medical Sciences, was used during the first 6 months of the year 2018. Data analysis was carried out using descriptive statistics methods. Results: In this study, the score percentage obtained by the Department of Nursing in 9 factors of internal evaluation was 89. 78% for management and organization, 88. 88% for mission and goals of education, 84. 7% for faculty member, 79. 6% for educational group, 79. 86% for educational curriculum, 72. 5% for assessment and evaluation, 69. 34% for students, 68. 76% for graduates, and 67. 29% for physical space. Conclusion: According to the results of this study, the highest score was related to the management and organization and the lowest score was for graduates and physical space.

Abstract: 

Background and Objectives: The internal evaluation is the process of examining the status of the academic system by the faculty members themselves. This project aims to make educators and faculty members more aware of the department goals and to make appropriate planning for evaluation of the educational process of the department as well as improvement of quality of future activities. In this research, the internal evaluation was conducted in Department of Environmental Health Engineering of the Qom University of Medical Sciences. Methods: This descriptive cross-sectional study was performed in School of Public Health of Qom University of Medical Sciences in 2017. Sampling method was census and evaluation was performed in the fields of mission and educational goals, management and organization, faculty members' educational capabilities, curriculum, department, graduates, physical environment of the faculty, library, and computer unit. Data were collected using the opinions of faculty members of the departments and students through a questionnaire. Data were analyzed using descriptive statistics. Results: According to the results, the highest level of satisfaction was found to be 83. 3% in the field of management and organization of the department (the head of department) and the field of research capabilities of faculty members, and the highest level of dissatisfaction reported to be 65% in the graduates and their employment status. Conclusion: The results of this research revealed that Qom Department of Environmental Health Engineering has achieved a favorable status in most of the fields. However, appropriate planning seems necessary for continuous improvement of education quality and elimination of deficiencies.
