Considering every teaching wouldn’t Lead to learning and traditional Methods often Less resulted in deep Learning, we implemented case–based teaching method for educational common and practical Infectious diseases courses. Furthermore, diarrheal diseases are common and important and one of mortality causes in developing countries; moreover, their correct management is important, hence, these items were selected. This Interventional study was implemented for one group with 17 students and compared with another group with 21 students of conventional methods. For this comparison, two OSCE and MCQ exams were used. Data was analyzed by SPSS ver.16 software. In OSCE exam for case group with Independent T-Test P=0.026, Mean=12.73, and Standard deviation=2.15 in in comparison to Mean=11.02 and Standard deviation=2.33 in control group were observed. In MCQ exam with Mann-whitney test P=0.039, Mean=2.47, and Standard deviation=0.94 in case group were obtained in comparison with Mean=1.81 and standard deviation=1.03 in control group respectively (a=0.05) that in two exams results were significant. Despite efforts done by nursing educational staff and medical staff to improve the occurred clinical education problems, the facts indicate that the clinical aspects of nursing education has under gone a lot of deficiencies. Due the impact of environment in educational quality, clinical learning environment problems have been studied in this research. The tool of data collection was questionnaires consisted of two parts for both instructors and students. The study population included all nursing students and nursing instructorsin Tabriz, Maragheh, and Ahar nursing and midwifery schools. The students comprised eight semester nursing students. Moreover, target population consisted of 107 nursing junior students and 50 nursing instructors. Data analysis was done using descriptive statistic (proportions, percentages, frequency distribution, and standard deviation). The results showed that students’ viewpoints regarding the highest percentage score was given for “discriminate between nursing students and other students of medical sciences” and the lowest percentage score belonged to "disproportion number of patients with the number of students” however, instructor’ viewpoints showed the highest percentage score is for "the lack of reporting systems in accordance with the standards of nursing writing (SOAPIE) and "lack the necessary equipment to perform nursing procedures" both with the same percentage score and the lowest percentage score was for “lack of diagnosis of various diseases". Therefore, the improvement of facilities and review of clinical records systems, and nursing documentation standards are recommended.

Abstract:

Indeed, the effectiveness of research depends on the satisfaction of the society needs. Evaluation of research barriers in any scientific field is essential for considering deficiencies and weaknesses of that approach. Hence, the purpose of this study was to determine the research barriers in education from the view point of faculty members of Jahrom University of Medical Sciences. In this cross-sectional study, Sample of the study consisted of 52 faculty members that have been randomly selected and assessed by a valid and reliable questionnaire. The completed questionnaires were gathered and Data analysis was done by student’s T, Chi square, and variance analysis tests and consequently showed the most important individual barriers in educational research were having more interest in teaching rather than research, not interesting in this research and more incentives in performing clinical researches. Organizational barriers included considering the educational research studies at the research secondary level, the lack of both characteristically tendency in performing and enough specialist in this field. Moreover, the mean of organizational barriers was lower than personal barriers (p<0.0001) and there was a significant difference between the mean of organizational (63.1±9.02) and individual barriers (72.2±9.9) and also both groups were essential barriers in educational research. Worth noting that beside them, individual barriers were more significant than organizational one. Finally, reducing these barriers by considering the research official’s managers is necessary and so far, it is highly recommended that conducting institutional committees for programming and resolving the problems is suggested.

Abstract:

The students' academic achievement and preventing the loss of improvement is the main concerns of education officials, students as well as their families would be affected by some factors. It seems that emotional intelligence effects students' academic achievement. Regarding to this, the present study aimed to assess any probable relationship between emotional intelligence and academic achievement of students. This descriptive-analytic correlational study was conducted on 303 students of the Medical Sciences, Azad, and National universities of Jiroft in 2013. For measuring academic achievement last semester average and total grades and also for measuring emotional intelligence Bradbry-Graves questioner was used. Data was analyzed by SPSS19 software using descriptive (mean and standard deviation) and inferential (t-test, ANOVA, chi-square, Pearson correlation coefficients) statistical methods. Based on the results, students’ academic achievement was in middle range. Moreover, a statistical significant relationship was found between academic achievement and gender, residential status, and kind of universities (P=0.00). Mean scores of consciousness, selfmanagement, social awareness and relationship management subscales were 82.81±5.58, 70.47±13.93, 81.36±7.30 and 73.44±10.26, respectively and mean of student’s emotional intelligence score was 77.02±9.26 that showed middle emotional intelligence among students. The Results showed a significant relationship between emotional intelligence and all its subscales with age, students’ semester and degree (P=0.05). Furthermore, Pearson test revealed a significant correlation between emotional intelligence and academic achievement. Therefore, it’s suggested that with considering concept of emotional intelligence in educational programs, providing a good condition for students can help them to tolerant educational and social strains as well as less effected by educational loss.

Abstract:

This study was performed on the evaluating motivation and interest of radiology students towards choosing career or continuing higher education study. The study was a crosssectional study using sampling method for data collection. The participants were 129 discrete and continuous undergraduate students in radiology field during second semester of academic year 2011-2012 and first semester of academic year 2012-2013. A questionnaire containing 18 questions was used to collect data and also was analysed by using SPSS software and descriptive statistical tests. Significant relationship was observed between the time spent for training by students, teachers approach to students and the students’ interest degree to the field after entering to university (p=0.007). Majority of radiology students (61.5percent) were interested in starting a career rather than continuing the study. About 68percent of these students were interested in working in magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) center because of lack of exposure to ionizing radiation. Among the branches of radiology Master's degree, MRI was the highest degree of interest and the lowest percentage was related to medical engineering. Regarding to the job situation of radiology, most of the students showed their interest in stabilizing their career situation at first and then continuing their study. Finally, the first priority of students regarding both employment and continuing the study was usually MRI because they believed in not receiving ionizing radiation and they could have access to better career positions.

Abstract:

Considering the importance of e-learning in medical education, the designation and initiation of new teaching methods is significant. Hence, the aim of this study was to compare two different teaching methods; traditional and weblog-based teaching (WBT) by group discussion. This quasi-experimental study was conducted on 114 students of nutritional science who selected the course unit of “food service managing”. In the first semester, 6-7 section was hold traditionally. Then, WBT was done off-line by the instructor. Data collection was carried out through researcher-made exit poll questionnaire and pre-test and post-test questionnaire too. For comparing intra and inter group differences, Paired sample T test and Student T test was used, respectively. Based on the pre-test results, neither scores was statistically different between groups (P>0.05). Moreover, the mean of attitude and practice scores in post-test were significantly higher in the WBT method (P=0.032 and P=0.017, respectively). However, no significant difference was found in scores of knowledge between two teaching methods (P=0.078). Therefore, the usage of web-sites and weblogs seems beneficial opportunity for elearning that can improve educational level; awhile raised culture level and computer knowledge level is recommended necessary to use this method.

Abstract:

University students experience more pressure and discomfort due to sensitivity of development and change period and its critical conditions, especially in the first years of entrance to the university. Therefore, it seems necessary to support them in this way. Since counseling is done by counseling professors in different departments of medical faculties in universities of Iran, we decided to ask professors their incentive and purpose of accepting this great responsibility and to assess their answers. The study was descriptive and cross-sectional and the research population consisted of counseling professors of Medical Universities at basic sciences level. The tool used in this study was a twenty-item questionnaire which was approved by two professors of psychology and an MS in Statistics. A total of 45 questionnaires were distributed among the counseling professors of the mentioned universities and 32 questionnaires were fully completed and analyzed. A total of 32 questionnaires were almost equally distributed among four universities, (Shiraz, Tehran, Bushehr and Ahvaz Jundishapur University of Medical Sciences). To evaluate the requested parameters of the questionnaire, always and often is considered as agreement, sometimes as indifference, and rarely or not at all as disagreement of counseling professor. The most important reason of accepting counseling in educational aspect was student achievement (96.9%). Research credibility of university and student was agreed in 46.9%, and 37.5%, respectively. The cause of counseling acceptance was not to satisfy university administrators, earning money, and possession of extra-time. The results of this study show that the professors believe that counseling is an efficient way to help students’ achievement and to solve their academic, personal, and social problems.
