Abstract:

Reject and repeat radiographs causes numerous difficulties within imaging departments; in addition, relationship between education level and performance is well established, and patients and staff exposure increases due to radiographs repetition, and it will also increase the costs. Hence, the aim of this study was to evaluate the effect of education on repetition rate of radiographs images were taken by radiography students at teaching hospitals of city of Ahvaz. The participants of the study contained 70 radiography students, then the sample size was reduced to 59 students; moreover, the performance of the students was evaluated by a researcher- made check list which contained information related to the number of radiographs performed and number of radiographs repeated and rejected. Consequently, the information obtained was analyzed using SPSS version 20. Out of2496 radiographs performed before intervention in general, 284 (11.3%) were repeated; Out of those, 1026 radiographs were taken by students before interventions; out of those, 1999 (19.3%) were repeated. After interventions, 1470 of them were taken by students; only 85 ones (5.7%) were repeated. In sum, improper positioning (9%) and incorrect exposure factors (7.3%) were the main causes of rejection and repeat radiographs. Respectively, education and alterations in the method of presentation were considered as effective factors in reducing the number of repeated radiographs. Therefore, focusing of continuing practical education, preparing exposure factor tables, and using educational Phantoms would be effective in reducing repeated radiographs.

Interest is the starting point for learning through educational sciences. However, no study is available on the students’ interest in nursing as a career. This study aimed to evaluate the factors affecting the interests of nursing students at Kashan University of Medical Sciences toward Nursing as a career. This cross-sectional study was performed on 185 nursing students. Then data were gathered using a questionnaire made by the researchers. The first part of the questionnaire included demographic information, the second section consisted of questions on factors affecting interest and the tired part consisted of questions on how these factors changed their interest during their study period. Afterwards, data analysis conducted using descriptive statistics, chi- squared, independent and paired t testes. According to result, the students obtained 54.79±27.03% of the interest score at arrival then it was increased to 59.94±27.56% during the study period. Consequently, the main factors affecting interest were a feel of being helpful for the human kind, high possibility of being employed, and awareness of the nurse’s high level responsibility toward patient. It is suggested that a change should be made during student selection process for profession, therefore, the students’ interest and personality can be considered.

Abstract:

Due to the close relationship between the meaning of quality and clinical competence and also improving quality of nursing services by increasing clinical competence, this study was conducted with the goal of determination of self-efficacy in clinical competence of nursing students as well as its relationship with demographic characteristics. The descriptive-analytical study was carried out at Tabriz medical university in academic year 2012-13. For collecting data, the Self-efficacy Questionnaire was used for Professional Nursing Competence, and it was also included 181 items and provided in six areas namely relationship between nurse-patient, health promotion, disease/injury prevention, supportive care, rehabilitation care, and professional performance area. In addition, statistical analysis of data was done by applying SPSS13 software Based on the findings, average level of self-efficacy in professional nursing competence was 68.10±14.50. Among related areas, professional performance area (73.02±16.42) was at the highest level while health promotion area (64.78±16.66) was at the lowest level. In this study, relationship between gender and self-efficacy in professional nursing competency was meaningful (P=0.01); by noticing that self-efficacy in professional nursing competence was at the middle level, therefore, it is required that nursing program improve based on achieving clinical competence in order to increase students’ self-efficacy. Moreover, gaining nursing competency should be added as a part of nursing assessments.

Selected effective training methods are considered as learning objectives and key elements of the training plans. This study has been done with the aim of comparison the effectiveness of” Heart dysrhythmia training by two methods of multimedia and lecturing to the nursing students’ knowledge retention”. In a quasi-experimental study, 45 nursing students were randomly allocated to two groups in semester 7 (group lecturing and multimedia) to teach in the first semester 2013, respectively. Moreover, 20 multiple-choice questions were used to test students’ knowledge in three stages: before, after and reminding (2 months after the intervention). Then data were analyzed with software SPSS 19 at 95% significance level. Although, no significant differences in mean scores were observed between the two groups before intervention (p>0.05), the students’ level of knowledge of both methods increased after the intervention compared to pre- (p>0.001). In addition, in reminding phase the scores in the group trained with multi-media software and lecturing were significantly different between groups (p<0.05). According to results, the effectiveness of lecture and multimedia software at posttest indicated the usefulness of both methods, however, to increase the preservation and conservation of students’ knowledge, using multi-media software offered.

Abstract:

Today, due to the presence of new technologies and changes in library’ mission, they have become a place for providing information services rather than to store books; therefore, this challenges assessing the quality and suitability of the resources that it contains. This study aimed to evaluate the efficiency and utilization of the Central University Library’ databases of medical students and faculty deals. This descriptive study was conducted; the population encompassed EBSCO databases, PubMed, Science Direct and Springer shared to the central library of Ahvaz Jundishapour University of Medical Sciences; and frequency method was used to collect data. After data collection, findings indicated that significant differences existed between the usage rate of databases, and Pubmed was the highest use in this regard. Moreover, according to the academic disciplines variation, the use of databases between different users was so significant that most users of Medical School and School of Dentistry showed the lowest rate. In addition, EBSCO databases and Springer which rarely provide full-text articles were indicated the lowest rate among users mentioned that due to time allocated and it was not economically affordable. It is the fact that the use of databases is inevitable, since some databases are required to pay a subscription, therefore, users must be more careful to select and subscribe them in order to reduce affordably the university’ economical cost and to increase its usefulness to users.

Abstract:

In addition to stresses relating to educational settings, dentistry students are also exposed to stresses of clinical settings. Anxiety and depression are two very important issues in everyone’s life. This is due undoubtedly to exposure to stress and tensions, and it is the individuals’ variability that determines to what extent they are influenced by environmental conditions. Through this cross-comparative study conducted in May 2014, we tried to determine to what extent the individuals behavior is affected by the environment. The research hypothesis holds that the extent of anxiety and depression among non-native male students of Dentistry School at Ahvaz Jundi Shapour University of Medical Science was much higher than that of their native counterparts. To this end, Beck Depression Inventory and Cattell Anxiety test were used. Then, reliability and validity of the questionnaire were reassessed, and then the population was determined through studying total of 123 male students that 62 (31 non-native and 31 native) students were randomized easily, in addition, they had spent more than 2 years studying dentistry, and their family economic situation was also relatively moderate. Data analysis was performed using descriptive statistics, frequency, mode, mean, standard deviation, ANOVA, and independent t-test and Pearson Correlation using statistical software SPSS21. Finally, the results indicated that depression and anxiety among native and non-native students were not significantly different, therefore, the hypothesis was rejected.
